There isn't anything to be said about the Klipsch X10i earphones that hasn't already been said about Chuck Norris.
Officially, these are called the Klipsch Image X10i Lou Reed Edition, because apparently the famed rocker Lou Reed is partial to the color purple. Personally, I'm not much of a purple kinda-guy; however, I do appreciate great sounding in-ear earphones, which is exactly what these are.
Now that I got the sales pitch out of the way, let me tell you why you will love the Klipsch X10i.
The Klipsch X10i are lightweight earphones, they weigh 10 grams, about the same weight as two US minted nickels. They have a surprisingly ergonomic design, so the X10i goes pretty far into your ear to create a good seal, yet is not intrusive. Nobody likes the feeling that they might look like Evander Holyfield if their in-ear earphones got caught on something.
Eventhough they are purple, which let me say again, isn't my color, the X10i are pretty damn good looking. Really though, Lou Reed is from the old school rock-n-roll era, those guys were glamorous and partied their faces off, long before Ace of Spades and that song about some gentleman in Paris.
The X10i is made from aluminum, which is why they are so light. The aluminum doubles down on the design as it gives the Klipsch X10i an impressive and unique finish.
The sound produced by the X10i is very warm and bright with pretty good bass. Considering how small and sleek the X10i is, the soundstage produced is pretty impressive. With pretty good noise isolation, the X10i seem to be suitable for any listening environment, but are surely geared more towards on-the-goers. While these are not going to really live on any side of the frequency range, it will serve as a great fitting, balanced earphone for everyday use.
Designed with a built-in microphone & control talk, these are the perfect pair for any Apple device. The song control on the X10i is minimal, and well placed on the cord as to not interfere with your movements. The microphone on these in-ear earphones actually has surprisingly good audio quality, which is kind of shocking as this is generally an afterthought on most iPhone earphones.
Initially, I was kind of turned off to these based on the purple finish (if I hadn't made that clear above). But when I tried them, I was very surprised at the neutrality and functionality of these earphones. My bottom line impression is that the Klipsch X10i are great everyday earphones. Between the comfortable and lightweight design, and the balanced, and neutral sound, it's evident that these are designed as a great entry level pair of earphones that are accessible to most budgets.
These are curated by the famed rocker Lou Reed, who is surely from a different era of music. Just as I was about to return these earphones to our demo station it hit me - I know why they are purple. Think of Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, or any other rocker for that matter, primarily about their choice of clothing. On the show American Idol, Steven Tyler shows up dressed like a figure skater in the epitome of an eclectic outfit. A rock star can show up wearing whatever they like, after all, they rock! They have the kind of rock-n-roll "I'll do whatever I want" swag about them. Now if I showed up for work dressed ilke Steven Tyler, I'd probably be sent home to change after getting a room full of awkward looks. Thankfully, with the Lou Reed editions I don't need to dress like a figure skater to tell the world I rock. That my friends is the whole point of rock-n-roll, the freedom to whatever you like. So whether you're fighting the system, or riding the subway, the Klipsch X10i earphones are a great compliment to your portable music device, and also double as a way to say that you're cool.
